1 Pet. 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1 Pet. 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
1 Pet. 1:17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judges according to every mans work, pass the time of your sojourning herein fear:
1 Pet. 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold,from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1 Pet. 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
The distance between Heaven and Earth is measured in Conversations.
Welcome To The Light-Washed Path,
Taken from yesterday’s message
All we have to do, to have an environment which is fatal to lies and insincerity, is to let God arise in our conversations. The Holy Spirit flows on the verbal currents of truth and sincere love. It takes more than speaking the right things it takes the right things speaking.
How intently the Lord desires our fellowship to center in Him and our conversation to never be far from His Word. Our conversations are the highways between Heaven and Earth. Thoughts of Him may sooth our minds but conversations of Him supply our lives. The Lord draws near to conversations that invite Him. Think of the two disciples, walking and talking together about Jesus, on the Emmaus Road:
Luke 24:15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
What did Jesus mean when He spoke of the authority that would be present when we gathered together in His Name?
Matt. 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Surely gathering in His Name is coming together in conversation. And look at what Jesus promised to do – “…there am I in the midst of them.” We simply cannot ignore the premium that the Bible places on conversation. It is literally the medium of the Presence of God – the currents on which His Presence flows. When David said:
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore. Psa. 133:1, 3
He is talking about believers working at, and achieving, unity of faith in their conversation. And look at the awesome promise attached to that place called conversation: “THERE the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.” Do we need God’s blessing and Life? Well He has already commanded it to rest upon the unity of godly conversation. All we need is to dwell THERE.
The Prophet Malachi spoke of a time and condition where the wicked seemed to succeed and even prevail in their tyranny over the righteous. It was as though the wicked seemed to get all the blessings of life. As a result the righteous were very discouraged.
Mal. 3:15 And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.
But then something remarkable happened. The true believers began to build their conversations around the Lord rather than complaining about the inequity of the prosperity of the wicked.
Mal. 3:16 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.
Wonderfully, the Lord drew near and took note of their conversations. They got God’s attention. Which is something the wicked could never hope to purchase with all their advantages. But the righteous obtained God’s favor and attentiveness through their conversations. The Lord not only was attracted by their conversations, He took hold of them as His intimate children.
Mal. 3:17 And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
We must remind ourselves today that when the fear of the Lord motivates us to speak often to one another of His greatness, that the LORD will hearken, and hear it.
